On November 18, 1962, the city was previously known as Deltona Lakes. The name, Deltona, is derived from a combination of “DeLand” and “Daytona”. Deltona’s nickname is: “Florida’s Bright Spot” and its motto is: “I’m Proud To Be A Part Of It!”.
The City of Deltona was originally established as a planned residential community. Since its opening in 1962, the community rapidly grew into one of largest cities in Central Florida.
Today, Deltona is mostly residential, and primarily serves as a commuter town for the nearby cities of Orlando, Deland and Daytona Beach, as well as many surrounding local communities.
